Melissa Greenough, a Grade 6 teacher at the school, was one of 23 educators that received Education Week Awards for providing students with the tools they need to be successful. “The educators we are honouring today (April 23) go above and beyond for the benefit of their students' mental, physical and social well-being," said Education Minister Ramona Jennex in a prepared statement. Students at the Windsor Forks District School learned how to give the gift of hope this past Valentine’s Day. The school hosted its first Head For A Cure hair donation drive Feb. 14. The drive, organized by Windsor Forks teacher Melissa Greenough, saw more than 20 people head to the front of a packed gymnasium to have their ponytails cut off, and stuffed in baggies destined for a shop that makes wigs for chemotherapy patients. There is no question that cell phones are valuable as they allow you to call or text family and friends from almost anywhere. Texting on your cell phone can be cheaper than calling and allows you to communicate without much interruption. It also allows you to update ‘statuses,’ and send pictures or videos to stay connected.
What we must understand, however, is that a lot of personal information, such as phone numbers, GPS locations, photos and videos are made available just by using a mobile device. If you are not careful with how you share, this type of information can be made available to the wrong people.
